A staircase is the one piece of metalwork people put their whole body weight on several times a day, and an uneven riser is something they will feel every single time. We set out stairs from the actual floor-to-floor measurement so every rise is equal, then build and fit the flight and its railing as one job.

QUESTIONS WE GET ASKED

How do you make sure the steps are even?

We measure the finished floor-to-floor height on site — not the drawing — and divide it into equal risers. Setting out from a plan and discovering the slab is 40mm off is how you end up with one short step at the top, which is exactly the one people trip on.

Can you build a spiral staircase?

Yes. Spiral stairs are the usual answer when there is not enough floor area for a straight flight. We need the floor-to-floor height and the diameter available, and we will tell you whether the result will be comfortable to use or merely legal.

Do stairs come finished or do we paint them?

We can supply primed for you to finish, or fully finished in enamel or powder coat. For external stairs we strongly recommend a zinc-rich primer under the topcoat — it is the difference between a stair that lasts and one that bleeds rust in two rainy seasons.
